Lynda the Forgotten |
Lynda served her infernal masters for years in preparation for the coming apocalypse. They promised her power, and in return she helped rot civilization from within. When the time came, and the infernals took their great prize from humanity...they completely forgot about Lynda.
Alone and with nothing to show for all her hard work, Lynda immediately traveled to all the old ritual sites she knew of and stole every magic relic and talisman of power she could find. If the infernals weren't going to keep up their end of the bargain, she'd just rob them blind of what was left.
The infernals, of course, do not care at all. Lynda now wanders the wastes, laden with satchels brimming with arcane items, trading and selling them as she needs to in order to survive. When she gets into trouble, she still knows a few infernal tricks to help keep her safe, but more often than not she'd rather talk her way out of a sticky situation with a few proffered trinkets.

Riot Quest - Although this model has rules which allow it to be played in Warmachine and Hordes, it was primarily designed for the Riot Quest boardgame. RQ is set in an alternate and/or future timeline where the Infernals won the war. Some of the RQ models are slightly more goofy than their WMH equivalents.

Thoughts on Lynda the Forgotten
Lynda the Forgotten in a nutshell
Like all the best Marked Souls, Lynda offers two lines of play which can completely change how she interacts with the battle. The first mode is the simple one, use advanced deployment & her defensive abilities to get close to the enemy before summoning a Tormentor directly in front of a vulnerable target. The second mode makes use of her two army support abilities, using her to deliver a unit of Howlers with minimal casualties. It's best to think of Lynda as somewhere inbetween Nicia2 and Orin2, not as aggressive as the former and not as valuable support as the later, but more adaptable than either.
Combos & Synergies
- Orin2 can force rerolls on connecting enemy attack rolls with Knowledge of the damned so it hopefully misses the next time, then make the missed model Dodge away with shimmering Visage. This is an especially useful way to protect your Marked Souls, Foreboders, and potentially even your Master.
- Combine Zaateroth's Long Shadows with the Tome of Living Shades to massively gimp medium range targets.
- Her support abilities combine especially well with Howlers, a hard hitting unit which often cannot stand up to opponents' heavy gunfire.
- Lynda often needs to be run into because of Low Priority, setting up a strong Desolator summon.
- Shutting down an enemy unit's ability to send/receive orders is huge for models that want to be surrounded by enemy troops without being hit first, such as the Soul Stalker.
- Dodge is especially good on the other forward-placed Marked Soul, Nicia2.
Drawbacks & Downsides
- If something can target her, it will probably kill her. 12/13 is killed on average dice by 1 point infantry.
- One of the few Infernal models not allowed in Hearts of Darkness.
- Marked Soul slots were already very competitive, and it's not clear that Lynda does more than Nicia2 or Runewood2.
- The aura on her abilities are 8" & 10", short enough that supporting enemy models will likely be able to engage Lynda. She's soft enough that even free strikes have a good chance of getting a kill.
- Mild skornergy with her combination of abilities. Low Priority & Advanced Deployment makes it easy to get an aggressive summon out of Lynda, but she has several abilities which are most useful after the initial engagement.
Tricks & Tips
- Dodge is extremely useful on an aggressively positioned melee Master, such as Omodamos. Dodge will mess with your opponent's attack priority, often forcing them to engage with boostable attacks first, such as from a charging warbeast, and prevent 'junk' attacks from lower accuracy attackers such as infantry. You can always dodge into melee to avoid ranged attacks, or side step to close off a chargelane.
- Lynda is best positioned to one side of the enemy line of attack. This will allow her to still use her abilities, but be unable to be engaged without an enemy moving away from their main spearhead.
- Low Priority prevents enemy from targeting her with charges or slams (but doesn't stop tranples).
- This lets her stand surprisingly close to melee-only enemies with little fear of reprisal. Often all your opponent can do is run a model to engage Lynda, which makes her a prime target to summon into a Desolator next turn.
- Wilting Horn can be especially good later on in the game as a way to limit your opponent's caster. Indeed all of her abilities tend to scale well in the late game, making Lynda an unattractive early game summon.
