Khador Character Solo

After the Claiming, Yuri set out to atone for his career as a state-sanctioned Manhunter. He tried to live and let live, to find peace without violence. But death follows Yuri the way night follows day. And when the only tool in your toolbox is a headsman's axe, every obstacle looks like a head waiting to be severed.

the Statblock

Riot Quest - Although this model has rules which allow it to be played in Warmachine and Hordes, it was primarily designed for the Riot Quest boardgame. RQ is set in an alternate and/or future timeline where the Infernals won the war. Some of the RQ models are slightly more goofy than their WMH equivalents.

Abilities

  • Ambush - You can choose not to deploy this model at the start of the game. If it is not deployed normally, you can put it into play at the end of any of your Control Phases after your first turn. When you do, choose any table edge except the back of your opponent's deployment zone. Place this model completely within 3" of the chosen table edge.
  • Cover Tracks - Immediately after resolving a ranged attack during this model's activation that destroyed or removed from play one or more enemy models, this model can immediately perform the Trapper special action.
  • Hunter - This model ignores cover and concealment when making ranged attacks.
  • Trapper [4"] (★ Action) - Place a 4" AOE in base contact with this model. The AOE remains in place for one round. Living and undead models entering or ending their activations in the AOE suffer a POW 10 damage roll. Models damaged by Trapper become knocked down. Models with Flight are not affected.

Thoughts on Yuri2

Yuri2 in a nutshell

He's a ranged combat solo which will scalpel out something on the turn he ambushes, given he has a 21" threat range from either side of the table. He can also use Trapper to deny a counter-offensive from infantry. He bears a striking resemblance to Longchops, and what can be said of one rings mostly true of the other.

Combos & Synergies

  • The Warriors of the Old Faith theme force lacks ambushers and good shooting. Yuri brings both. Feora3 makes his gun more powerful with Incite, a RAT 9, POW 16 arrow coming from the sidelines has to be respected.
  • Vladimir1 and Butcher1 give him an extra die, which he loves (as does any ranged model in Khador).
  • Greylord Adjunct can give him Guidance. Between that and already having Hunter & Arcing Fire, there is little anti-ranged tech that will work against him.
  • Malakov2 can give him Backstab which can be great on Ambush turn ... assuming you get Malakov within 5" of Yuri before Yuri activates from within the Ambush deployment area. I don't know why Malakov would be that close to one side of the table, but yeah sure why not.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • He can't be used alongside Yuri1, so your Manhunters and Kossite Woodsmen can't get Tree Walker (the buff that comes from Yuri1).
  • Shield Guard denies most of his kit.
  • Fiscally he is expensive, as he only comes in the Winter Wasteland set with 4 non-Khador models. But at least 2 of those 4 are Mercenaries that will work for Khador.
  • If he fails to kill with his gun he doesn't get trapper and is easily scalpeled out.
  • For just 2 points more you get a min unit of Kossites who do most of what he does, but hit about as hard thanks to Backstab are are six boys and girls not one.

Tricks & Tips

  • The threat of Yuri2, and how he forces enemy support solos to hide from his Ambush, is often just as valuable as what he does do while on the table.
  • His bow is good, but don't discount his knife either. A P+S 10 with Weapon Master and MAT 10 thanks to the Backstrike bonus can come in clutch.

Other

Trivia

  • Released 2020.12
  • His cloak is made from Lug's fur.

Rules Clarifications

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Advance Deployment      (Edit)

  • Sometimes you can attach a WA or CA that doesn't have AD to a unit that does have AD. If you do, the attachment effectively gains AD and they can all advance deploy together. (Locked Thread)
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Pathfinder      (Edit)

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Stealth      (Edit)

  • Stealth models are not invisible and you can target them - you'll just auto-miss most of the time.
  • You can target them with a charge.
  • You can target them with an AOE, have it auto-miss and scatter, luckily land on top of them anyway, and that will hit them.

Rules Clarification : Tough - None yet. (Edit)

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Ambush      (Edit)

  • If you attach a WA or CA to this unit, and the attachment doesn't have Ambush, then they all get to Ambush anyway. (Locked Thread)
  • Ambush and Apparition both occur at Step 5 of the Control Phase. However, Ambush specifies the "end" of the Control Phase so you cannot use Apparition on a model that Ambushes. (Infernal Ruling)
  • Declaring Ambush:
    • Choosing whether a unit deploys normally or ambushes needs to happen before deployment.
So it goes: do the starting roll, Player 2 chooses sides, Player 1 declares Ambushes (if any), then Player 2 declares Ambushes (if any), then Player 1 starts deployment. (Infernal Ruling)
    • If you have both Prey and Ambush, then you declare your Prey target at the normal time (even though the Prey-er isn't currently on the table). (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Cover Tracks - None yet. (Edit)

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Hunter      (Edit)

  • Although you ignore cover/concealment, you don't ignore "secondary" bonuses a model gets from it. For example, a model with Prowl will still gain Stealth from their concealment. (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Trapper      (Edit)

  • Knockdown (Edit) - Remember, knockdown only prevents what it says it does. Refer to the Knockdown page for a recap of what a model can/can't do.

Rules Clarification : Arcing Fire      (Edit)

  • Arcing Fire lets you ignore models but not terrain. You don't ignore clouds, forests or buildings.

Rules Clarification : Weapon Master - None yet. (Edit)
