Lynus Wesselbaum & Edrea Lloryrr Mercenary, & Minion, Character Unit

Since their mentor’s withdrawal from such pursuits, Lynus Wesselbaum and Edrea Lloryrr have taken the lead in cataloging the wonders of Caen in place of the famous professor Viktor Pendrake. With a strong knack for survival and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, they have already pursued countless dangerous expeditions and shared more than a few close calls, forging a strong friendship in the field. Lynus’ book smarts and sharp memory serve as an excellent complement to Edrea’s arcane gifts, and the pair has made a name for themselves in many academic circles.

  • First Aid [d3] (★ Action) - RNG B2B. Target friendly living model. If the model is in range, remove d3 damage points from it.

• Edrea
  • Magic Ability [ 7 ] - This model can cast spells. Normally this uses up the model's Combat Action and as such is limited to one spell per activation, but exceptions do exist.
  • True Sight - This model ignores cloud effects when determining LOS. This model also ignores Stealth.

Thoughts on Lynus Wesselbaum & Edrea Lloryrr

Lynus Wesselbaum & Edrea Lloryrr in a nutshell

Lynus and Edrea are a strange pair of utility models. Edrea provides cloud removal. Lynus has a weak heal and a lousy ranged or melee attack, but Applied Knowledge can help a caster or solo take out an aspect or system. Edrea makes them resistant to non-magical shooting but blasts or sprays can still do them in.

Combos & Synergies

• Since you can't target models behind clouds for ranged attacks they benefit just about any caster with a ranged focus.
• Any model with Grievous Wounds, especially Alten Ashley. If you can use Applied Knowledge on him, you can easily take out a warbeast's Spirit and deny it the ability to do anything useful for at least a turn.
• Any non battle engine War-noun would love Applied Knowledge, especially ones like Captain Kara Sloan with access to multiple attacks per activation.
• They were tailor made for Crosse2. Applied Knowledge makes his gun that much more effective and Wind Burst solves his cloud problem.
• Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper - She is an expert at applying stationary, so Applied Knowledge can be used to carve out cortices so warjacks can no longer shake it. Not having to worry about clouds is of course also great for her.
• Scythe is another great model to put Applied Knowledge on with her ROF 3 Weapon Master bow.

Drawbacks & Downsides

• They are a support unit and only useful in certain situations or with a select few casters. They probably won't make their points back in terms of damage output.

Tricks & Tips

• Bring the pair if you are worried about cloud walls - Edrea is very good at clearing them. The pair are adequate if the enemy doesn't have a cloud wall (Edrea especially) but are as much anti-cloud-wall tech as anything.

Rules Clarifications

Rules Clarification : Animosity      (Edit) When using the Specialist or ADR rules in a Steamroller format, your entire list and the specialists must be a single legally fieldable force (even though you're not fielding it all at once).

Rules Clarification : Officer      (Edit) Even if they're not on the Officer's card, an Officer can give (and benefit from) any non-standard orders that are on the unit's card (such as Shield Wall). Refer main rulebook. A Ranking Officer can't do this, though. When the Officer dies, the Leader model becomes the new Unit Commander (you don't get to choose). But if your unit doesn't include a Leader model, then you do get to choose any of the remaining models to be the new Unit Commander. You don't swap the model, but it may be worth putting a token down so you can tell that grunt apart.

Rules Clarification : Applied Knowledge      (Edit) Attacker chooses column vs Defender chooses column (Edit) When both the attacker and defender have an ability that lets them choose the column that gets damaged, the attacker gets to choose. (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Heal and/or First Aid     (Edit) This ability doesn't target, so you can use it on models behind you. When Heal is used as a magic ability, it bypasses anti-spell stuff that hinge on the word "target" (such as Spell Ward or Arcane Vortex).

Rules Clarification : Magic Ability      (Edit) Using a Magic Ability counts as a spell, for effects such as Spell Ward, Witch Hunter, etc. Combat Action Nearly all Magic Ability spells require the spellcaster to use their Combat Action to cast the spell. As such it is not an "at any time" ability (like it is when warcasters/warlocks cast spells). This means ... You must complete your movement before you use a MA. A model in a unit cannot use its Combat Action to cast a spell until all members of the unit have completed their movement. (Infernal Ruling) You cannot make initial ranged or initial melee attacks on the same turn you use a MA. You cannot buy additional melee/ranged attacks after using a MA special attack. Refer to the core rulebook, "Special attacks listed as a rule of the model itself are neither melee attacks nor ranged attacks. The rules for these special attacks indicate the nature of any additional attacks that can be made afterward, if any." You cannot use a MA on the same turn you charge. Because a charge must (almost always) be followed by a melee attack. Non-Combat Action There are a few models that can use a Magic Ability without using their Combat Action. These models get around all the restrictions listed above. Models with Geomancy or Necromancy can use a Magic Ability at "any time" just like a warcaster/warlock. Models with Battle Wizard or Necrophage can make melee attacks then get a bonus "free" spell. Models with Combat Caster can cast a spell before charging, then do a normal charge + melee attack. Note that Battle Wizards, Combat Casters, etc have the option to use their Combat Action to cast a spell. Their special rule is in addition to the normal spell casting, not instead of.

Rules Clarification : Wind Barrier      (Edit) "Non-magical ranged attacks" means "Ranged attacks that do not have Damage Type: Magical". (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Wind Burst and/or Wind Thrower     (Edit) There is a formatting error on the Steelhead Arcanist's warroom entry such that Wind Thrower is not listed under Magic Ability. Despite this error, it is a spell. The Wind AOE has to actually cross over the cloud; two AOE templates which are exactly "base to base" are not overlapping. (Infernal Ruling) Anti-Cloud abilities vs Burning Earth (Edit) If you make a piece of terrain "Burning Earth" it counts as a cloud effect in addition to it's original type. This has 2 odd rulings: If any part of the terrain piece is "hit" by an ability that makes clouds expire (such as Gale Winds) then the entire terrain piece is taken off the table. (Infernal Ruling) If a model can ignore clouds but not the original terrain type, they don't ignore the terrain. For instance if you have a burning forest, then Eyeless Sight can't see through the forest. (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Zephyr      (Edit) You cannot use Zephyr until everyone in the unit has moved (as no model in a unit can perform an Action until all models have completed their Move). (Infernal Ruling) You cannot use an Action on the same turn you Run or Charge.(Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : True Sight      (Edit) You only ignore clouds for LOS. Models can still get the concealment bonus, trigger Prowl, etc from clouds. (Infernal Ruling) A model that ignores Stealth must ignore both aspects: both (1) the auto-missing, and (2) the 'not counting as an intervening model' parts. This can have some strange interactions with casters & channelers, if one has True Sight and one does not. There are examples on the Category:Channeler page.
