This article is part of Warmachine University's Crash Course (101) series, which is "Basic Training" aimed at new players who are still learning the core rules.

The 101 series is intended to help you understand the rulebook, but you shouldn't be reading this instead of the rulebook.

Warmachine and Hordes have two sources of "bonus points" that get added to your army list. The first is your caster's battlegroup points (Warcasters use WJP, Warjack Points, and Warlocks use WBP, Warbeast Points) and the second are Requisition Points. But you only get Requisition Points if you make a list using the Theme Force rules.

WJP and WBP

On the bottom right of a warcaster's card you'll find their WJP, it ranges from +20 to +32. These are bonus points that can only be spent on warjacks that are in that caster's battlegroup.

  • You can add more warjacks to the caster's battlegroup, but you'll need to use points from your regular army to do so.
  • You can have less warjacks in the caster's battlegroup. In the core rules there is no minimum, but in the steamroller rules (which most players use for every game) your entire army cost must be within 4 points of the game size total, including WJP.

Warlocks and WBP work exactly the same way.

Example: Bob is playing some 25 points games.

In game 1, Bob uses Captain Allister Caine (Caine2) with a Centurion and Ace which exactly equals Caine's WJP. So Bob has another 25 points to spend on troops
Caine2: [+27 WJP]
Remaining army: [25 pts]
Total: 25 points (game size); 52 points worth of models
In game 2, Bob swaps to Lieutenant Allister Caine (Caine1). Caine1 has more WJP than Caine2, but Bob chooses not to use them. Bob cannot use these 3 points on units and solos.
Caine1: [+30 WJP]
Wasted WJP: [3 pts]
Remaining army: [25 pts]
Total: 25 points (game size); 52 points worth of models
In game 3, Bob swaps to Caine's Hellslingers (Caine3). Caine3 has less WJP than Caine2, so Bob has to use points from his army to pay for his warjacks.
Caine3: [+20 WJP]
  • Ace: [10 pts]
  • Centurion: [17 pts] (10 paid by WJP, 7 paid by army points)
Remaining army: [18 pts]
Total: 25 points (game size); 45 points worth of models

Requisition Points

When you construct your army using the Theme Force rules, you get 1 Requisition Point per 25 points of game size. This is based on the game size so it doesn't matter how many WJP/WBP you have, nor does it matter if you underspend your army total. For instance, two players agree to play a 75 point game, but one player spends only 74 points - both players will still get 3 Requisition Points.

Each Requisition Point allow you to add more models to the army completely free of cost, but only from a small list of options. This list changes from theme to theme.

For instance, the Black Industries theme allows you to spend 1 Requisition on 3 Necrotech solos, and the Dark Host theme allows you to spend 1 Requisition on 3 Machine Wraith solos.

Army List Builder Tools

The official tool is Warroom2, which you can find on the app store. It is not just a army list builder, it also contains all the model rules which auto-update whenever the game devs release an errata. But wait there's more! It can be used to track damage during a game, and you can even use it to track what you own and what you've painted. Lastly it has a laggy copy of the core rules (which I suspect isn't up-to-date).

On the downside only a few models can be accessed for free, and you have to pay for access to the rest. Note that, if you get the ultimate bundle (all Factions) then you get access to all future Factions, too.

The unofficial tool is the fan-made Conflict Chamber. Unfortunately the fan who made it, Dr Bingham, started having a lot less time to work on it as of 2020.02 and it has gotten steadily more out-of-date. As of 2021.05 Bingham is in the process of handing over the reins to other fans with more free time.
