Trollkin Highwaymen |
As war has consumed the trollkin people, even outlaws and bandits among them have taken up arms in defense of kith and kriel. Peerless woodsmen and hunters, these highwaymen blend easily into forests and swamps. They strike from the shadows, unleashing withering pistol fire from a distance before closing to finish the job at point-blank range.

Thoughts on Trollkin Highwaymen
Trollkin Highwaymen in a nutshell
Highwaymen are a ranged unit, with a medium threat. They use combined ranged attacks to make up for low RAT and POW, and depend on solo Braylen Wanderheart, Trollkin Outlaw's Leadership ability (Backstab) to break armor.
Combos & Synergies
- Braylen Wanderheart lets them backstab. Which is great when you have two guns.
- Anyone with Snipe really improves their effectiveness - that is Captain Gunnbjorn and the Hunters Grim
- Anyone that can let them slip out of melee really helps. Especially if it lets them move through the enemy.
- Any solo in theme or Pyg Lookouts out of theme
- Boomhowler2 reposition is great on a large ranged unit, but covering fire and Overwatch from Trollkin Sluggers also helps protect them from melee centric responses.
- Boomhowler3 or Grissel1 offer Hoof It, which helps the Highwaymen slip into the back arcs of enemy models (albeit, unable to benefit from it until the next turn).
- General 'Thunderstone' Brug - range 8’ makes it difficult to aim but the difference Deadly Precision makes cannot be overstated. It’s just best to combine it with at least 1 of the above combos. Ignoring each other AND ignoring clouds with a base power of 12 makes interesting things happen.
Drawbacks & Downsides
- Lowish threat range and they die to return fire
- With no backup melee weapon, they are 100% useless if they get stuck in melee with something that has Countermeasures or Passage.
Tricks & Tips
- If you have Braylen go for the backstrikes. Swift Hunter can help them slip around for a backstrike, but be wary of free strikes.
- Two-model CRAs are frequently the way to go. It helps solve their LOW RAT and POW, and they have two shots each, so if each member of the unit participates in a two-model CRA, there unit still makes 10 attacks.
