Trollblood Trollkin Weapon Crew Unit

Thumper and pummeler cannons are the most powerful mobile artillery possessed by the Trollbloods. Originally naval cannons donated to the kriels, thumpers fire devastating cannonballs that punch through walls of enemy fortifications and flatten their warbeasts. The trollkin-designed pummeler instead fires devastating chain shot used for breaking troop formations from a distance, ideal for thinning enemy lines and mowing down anything in its firing arc.

Abilities

  • Gunner
    • Officer symbol.jpg Officer
    • Tough symbol.jpg Tough
    • Mobile Artillery - When this model advances as part of its Normal Movement, it gains +1" movement for each Grunt in this unit within 2" of it at the start of its advance.
    • Take Up - If this model is destroyed, you can choose a Grunt in this unit within 1" of it to be destroyed instead. Effects on this model expire, and it gains the effects on the chosen Grunt. Remove the Grunt from the table instead of this model. This model has the same number of unmarked damage boxes as the chosen Grunt.

Weapons

  • Gunner
    • Pummeler - 16" range, 3" AOE, POW 14 ranged attack
      • Arcing Fire - When attacking with this weapon, this model can ignore intervening models except those within 1" of the target.
      • Bounce - After determining the point of impact, roll deviation for one additional 3" AOE from that point. On a roll of 1 or 2, the additional deviates in direction 1. On a roll of 3 or 4, it deviates in direction 2. On a roll of 5 or 6, it deviates in direction 6. A model hit by the additional AOE suffers a POW 10 blast damage roll.
      • High-Explosive - Blast damage caused by this weapon is POW 10.
      • Inaccurate - This model suffers -4 to attack rolls with this weapon.
      • Minimum Range [ 8" ] - Attacks made with this weapon cannot target models within 8" of this model.
    • Axe - 0.5" reach, P+S 10 melee attack
  • Grunts

Thoughts on Pummeler Crew

Pummeler Crew in a nutshell

The Pummeler Crew is an interesting tweak to the Winter Guard Mortar Crew or the Venator Catapult Crew - instead of putting down one large blast to blow up as much infantry as possible, although with little accuracy, it puts down two small ones. It would be great for gutting infantry swarms - if we saw very many in Mk3

Combos & Synergies

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • It can't hit the broad side of a barn.
  • it’s difficult not to instead reach for the slightly more expensive Trollkin Barrage Team who are not inaccurate and don’t have the weaknesses of artillery.

Tricks & Tips

  • If you can get them forward and to the flank then a move and shoot approach can sometimes line up enemies, especially shield walls. As long as it doesn't miss..

Rules Clarifications

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Arcing Fire      (Edit)

  • Arcing Fire lets you ignore models but not terrain. You don't ignore clouds, forests or buildings.

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Bounce      (Edit)

  • Additional AOE (Edit)
    • The special rule states what the blast damage POW is - you don't need to halve it a second time.
    • If the deviation distance is short and the AOEs end up overlapping a model, that model will take a damage roll for each AOE it's in.
    • The distance of the second deviation is a d6 roll, unless the rule on the card specifies otherwise (Infernal Ruling).
    • If you have an ability to reroll deviation (such as Artillerist) then you can reroll each additional AOE independent of the others.
    • If the deviation direction of the additional AOEs is limited (such as Bounce) then the direction of the reroll is limited too. (Infernal Ruling)
    • The additional AOEs are treated as if they "came from the weapon" exactly the same as the first AOE.

Rules Clarification : High-Explosive      (Edit)

Rules Clarification : Inaccurate - None yet. (Edit)
Rules Clarification : Minimum Range - None yet. (Edit)

Rules Clarification : Officer      (Edit)

  • Even if they're not on the Officer's card, an Officer can give (and benefit from) any non-standard orders that are on the unit's card (such as Shield Wall). Refer main rulebook.
  • When the Officer dies, the Leader model becomes the new Unit Commander (you don't get to choose).
  • But if your unit doesn't include a Leader model, then you do get to choose any of the remaining models to be the new Unit Commander. You don't swap the model, but it may be worth putting a token down so you can tell that grunt apart.

Rules Clarification : Tough - None yet. (Edit)
Rules Clarification : Mobile Artillery - None yet. (Edit)

Rules Clarification : Take Up      (Edit)

  • If you use Take Up the attacking model cannot trigger anything that needs the attacker to "Destroy" a model (such as Alpha Hunter, Killing Spree, Berserk, etc). Although the model that was attacked reached the Destroyed step of the timing sequence, Take Up negates that entirely. (Infernal Ruling)
