A battle-hardened gun mage of the Order of the Arcane Tempest, Lieutenant Bastian Falk takes on special assignments in support of the Cygnaran Army. He has mastered several unique tactics over the years and is particularly notable for the rare ability to use his gun mage powers through a scattergun, allowing him to unleash a devastating barrage to tear through enemy ranks.

Abilities

Gunfighter -
Pathfinder - Reciprocate - When it is missed by an enemy ranged attack, immediately after the attack is resolved this model can make one basic ranged attack against the attacking model.
- Run & Gun - At the end of its activation, if this model destroyed one or more enemy models with a ranged attacks during that activation, it can make a full advance.
- Prowl - While this model has concealment, it gains stealth.

Thoughts on Lieutenant Bastian Falk
Lieutenant Bastian Falk in a nutshell
A gun mage with a very interesting magical shotgun - and a much needed damage buff. There's a reason Sons of the Tempest is sometimes called "Sons of the Falk". His main job is to tag as much stuff as possible with Rune Marked so his fellow magic attackers do more damage. His excellent infantry removal with his incindiary spray is a bonus.
In addition to all this he is very cheap and likely to make back his points as long as he gets 1 salvo off. If you can risk losing him charging and getting a Rune Marked boosted pow 14 (Pistoleer) against your initial target and the normal pow 14 against the models behind is a great way to crack medium based infantry or a wounded jack.
Combos & Synergies
- Any other Gun Mages, +2 damage is always useful.
- Any other damage buffs or ARM debuffs. Ragman or the Hermit are both available in SotT, which makes for a +4 damage swing.
- Anything that gives magical damage to models which don't have it normally.
- Major Markus ‘Siege’ Brisbane can upkeep Explosivo on himself or a 'jack and synergises pretty well with other Arcane Tempest units.
- Triumph's heavy barrel also has damage type magical and is auto boosted under either Siege.
- Captain Arlan Strangewayes gives a 'jack magical damage via Arcane Reinforcement. It is important to note that this applies to the Jack's Melee and Ranged weapons.
- Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Officer of course has his Drive: Rune Shot.
- Caine1 and his Field Marshal are all for this. POW 17 Defenders and POW 8 Hunters anyone?
- Major Markus ‘Siege’ Brisbane can upkeep Explosivo on himself or a 'jack and synergises pretty well with other Arcane Tempest units.
- Caine2 loves damage buffs on feat turn.
- Caine3 will never say no to damage buffs when he going to an assassination run.
Drawbacks & Downsides
- He needs to be up close and his DEF is good, but not outstanding; while his ARM is basically a sheet of paper. If he gets hit, there is an excellent chance he will die and if he is close enough to do his job he is close enough to get hit.
- He's a damage buff on a stick. Since Cygnar tends to be pretty low on them, it is pretty obvious why you brought him, and that makes a priority target out of him.
Tricks & Tips
- His Rune-Marked applies to his own damage roll, effectively making that attack type a POW 14 spray.
- In the spirit of fair play always declare which ammo type you use before making an attack. Most of the time your opponents may go easy on you as they'll assume you use Rune Marked if there's an important target to be de-buffed, but if you don't specifically state your choice your opponent may have the right to call out on you. In this case, according to an Infernal ruling you'll have to use the first type printed on the model's card (Incendiary).
