Protectorate Solo

Few deliverers survive long enough to gain true mastery of the weapons they wield, but those who do can earn the distinguished title of arms master, directing their charges in combat from the back lines. Tasked with the upkeep and repair of Skyhammer rockets and Sunburst artillery, they also train the faithful in the use of these devastating weapons.

Abilities

  • Tough symbol.jpg Tough
  • Artillerist (★ Action) - RNG CMD. Target friendly Faction model gains +2 RAT when making its next AOE ranged attack this turn. If the attack does not directly hit, you can reroll the direction and/or distance of its deviation. Each roll can be rerolled only once as a reasult of Artillerist.
  • Combat Coordination [Deliverer] (★ Action) - RNG CMD. Target friendly Deliverer model. If the target model is in range, during its activation this turn it can reroll one attack or damage roll, then Combat Coordination expires.
  • High-Angle Fire (★ Action) - Choose a friendly Faction model. While in this model's command range, the chosen model's AOE ranged weapons gain Arcing Fire. High-Angle Fire lasts for one turn. (Arcing Fire - When attacking with a weapon with Arcing Fire, a model can ignore intervening models except those within 1" of the target.)
  • Veteran Leader [ Deliverer ] - While in this model's command range, other friendly Deliverer models gain +1 to attack rolls.

Thoughts on Deliverer Arms Master

Deliverer Arms Master in a nutshell

The Deliverer Arms Master is a solo that helps with the Protectorate's artillery, making it more accurate or able to fire over targets. He also buffs other Deliverer models, but still isn't good enough to make individual Skyhammers accurate.

His stat line is slightly above 'victim' levels so he should be at the back of your force giving orders most of the time.

Combos & Synergies

  • Deliverer Sunburst Crew loves everything that the Arms Master can bring, giving them a bonus to hit and arcing fire.
  • Deliverer Skyhammers can profit from either of his actions. Although if you're having them CRA often, you probably don't really need this guy. The re-roll can be situationally excellent if you whiff on an important target, just make sure the leader of the CRA (the guy actually making the attack and damage roll) is the target of the re-roll ability.
    • Add the Eye of Menoth buff, from either Severius0 or Severius1, will basically eliminate their Inaccurate modifier.
  • Any warjack with a powerful AOE will like arcing fire or artillerist, most notably the Redeemer, the Vanquisher, and both colossi.

Drawbacks & Downsides

  • Deliverer Skyhammers still can't hit the broad side of a barn door without a CRA even with his help.
  • It's only little more expensive to get a second sunburst crew rather than the Arms Master.
  • His personal combat potential is low.
    • If he is close enough to throw a grenade he is in charge range, keep him back and use your actions
  • Your paying for the versitility of all of the *actions but you can only use 1 at a time.

Tricks & Tips

  • If you have multiple Deliverer models/units, you don't need to have all of them hang out in his 9" bubble. Have him hang out near one group and then, after that group has activated and attacked, activate this guy and move the buff towards the second group.

Rules Clarification : Fire      (Edit)

  • If you deploy in fire hazard terrain (Burning Earth), then you get set on fire before the game starts.
Deploying a model in a hazard counts as being "put into play" in the hazard. Being put into play counts as "entering". When you enter a hazard, you trigger the hazard.
  • Moving into "Shallow water" standard terrain does not cause continuous fire to expire. It's magic fire.
    • You can always use non-standard terrain if you agree with your opponent before the game starts, however.
  • A weapon can inflict continuous fire without itself being a fire damage weapon (for example, the Helios's fists). In this case, the attack can hurt models with Immunity:Fire it just won't apply the continuous effect.
  • In terms of which player's clock is running down during the Maintenance Phase: The active player will roll for expiration of all the continuous effects. Then the inactive player will roll for all the damages of the continuous effects. (Judge Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Artillerist and/or Lucky Shot and/or Spotter     (Edit)

  • This ability doesn't work on weapons with AOE (★) weapons (such as Old Witch2). (Infernal Ruling)
  • Roll both direction and distance before choosing which you want to reroll (if any), then reroll those.
    • This means that if you choose to re-roll only one die, and after re-rolling that one die you now want to re-roll the other die ... too bad.
    • (Mk2 2010 Infernal Ruling) which Dark Legacy confirmed in 2021 via Facebook (which I won't link to)
  • If you have two rerolls, you repeat the above process twice. Roll, choose which to re-roll (if any). If you still don't like the result, choose which ones to re-roll a second time. You can even change which one you re-roll.

Rules Clarification : High-Angle Fire      (Edit)

  • The chosen model doesn't need to be in command range at the time you use the ability, just when it is actually shooting.

Rules Clarification : Arcing Fire      (Edit)

  • Arcing Fire lets you ignore models but not terrain. You don't ignore clouds, forests or buildings.

Rules Clarification : Veteran Leader      (Edit)

  • Veteran Leaders don't give themselves the buff, because of the "other models within ..." clause. However, if you have two models giving out the buff, then they can give it to each other. (Locked thread)
  • If a model can get Veteran Leader from two sources (such as Vet Leader [Winterguard] simultaneous with Vet Leader [Assault Kommandos]) then the benefit does not stack. (Infernal Ruling)
  • Some versions say "friendly" and some don't. Regardless, Veteran Leader only buffs friendly models. (Infernal Ruling)
